Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) of Mumbai emerged champions in the All-India Kalinga Cup Football Tournament, defeating Kalighat Milan Sangha of Kolkata 2-1 in the final at Barabati Stadium here today. ONGC received a cheque of Rs 3 lakh, while Kalighat MS settled with Rs 2 lakh. Odisha Sports Minister handed over the coveted trophy at the closing function.
Odisha Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera, State Sports Department Secretary Saswat Mishra and Football Association of Odisha president Debashish Samantaray were present on the occasion.
Football Association of Odisha, in collaboration of State Sports & Youth Services Department organised the tournament from Nov 16. The tournament was inaugurated by Odisha Industries and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra.
Eight teams from within the state and 12 from outside vied for the trophy. Out of the eight home teams, four were the semifinalists of FAO First Division League 2013 (which was played amongst the affiliated clubs/institutions of Football Association of Odisha) and four others were the semifinalists of Inter-District Club Championship (Kalinga Cup Qualifying Round) 2014 which was played amongst champion teams of district League.
